The Essentials of Traveling in San Francisco

The Fisherman's Wharf is probably the most frequently visited place in San Francisco. Not much of a surprise when one is to consider that this part of San Francisco offers tons of activities for travelers. From here, one can have a beautiful sight of the famed San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz, and the Golden Gate Bridge, among others.

There are many things to do in San Francisco. Some of these is to dine and shop in the famed Ghirardelli Square, which likewise serves their world famous brand of chocolate. At the Boudin Bakery, visitors can peak through a window and see for themselves how bakers manufacture sour dough bread which the city of San Francisco is popular for. Alternatively, visitors can take a tour inside the bakery and the nearby museum.

Then one can visit the Musee Mecanique. It is a very big anthology of antique arcade machines that number to more than 300 items. The place is located at Pier 45. One can get in for free and have a sampling of the unique items on display. While it used to cost a nickel back then, today's machine now require quarter of a dollars.

Tourists can also visit the Wax Museum which is located on Jefferson Street, right in the heart of the Fisherman's Wharf. This popular destination hosts over 200 figures in very elaborate sets. Then there is the equally popular museum of Ripley's, which is host to more than 10,000 square feet of various oddities on public display.

You can also have a tour of authentic war ships and submarine by visiting the SS Jeremiah O'Brien as well as the USS Pampanito. History buffs will certainly love going to these places. There's also the Cannery, which used to be the biggest peach cannery in the entire world back in the 1900s. These days the Cannery is host to a large number of restaurants, bars, shopping centers, and venues for live entertainment.

Of course, San Francisco boasts of the ever-famous Pier 39. This is a classic tourist spot with very high end restaurants and bars. Although it wont appeal to budget conscious travelers and visitors, it is still one of the best places to stay in San Francisco. There are many things to do here. You can view the city from afar, enjoy servings of fresh and delicious seafood, and of course enjoy the sights of the sea lions which have recently moved in the area. A few dozens of sea lions have camped in the area and made their place like their home. This is why a lot of visitors take pleasure in having a close contact with these beautiful creatures.

You can always drive to Pier 39, although many suggest not to do it since walking is preferred in the area. Also there are many pedestrians in the area that having a car might give you a lot of headache especially in dealing with the number of people crossing the streets. Plus, parking fee is very expensive!
